Job Title: Camp Director Classification: Seasonal, Non exempt Compensation:$30/hour
Hours: April - June: up to 90 hours total July: 160 hours Aug: up to 10 hours total
School Garden Network (SGN) seeks an energetic, creative and fun individual to develop and lead a celebratory and inclusive Garden Camp this Summer.
Camp Director Duties:
Plan and deliver a diversity of daily summer camp activities for 8-11 year olds.
Create leadership opportunities and structure for camp Junior Educators (12-17 year olds)
Create safe, fun and educational outdoor opportunities
Supervise and facilitate quality camp programming
Develop, plan, teach and lead engaging activities related to natural science, gardening, cooking and natural arts & crafts
Facilitate a wide range of activities including group games, adventure scenarios, leadership skills, crafts, nature hikes and other hands-on activities
Maintain excellent rapport and constant communication with parents of camp participants on a daily basis
Share and communicate teaching responsibilities and planning with co-instructors, and provide support to them.
Maintain excellent communication with SGN Program and Executive Directors
Act as a professional representative of School Garden Network
Participate in all scheduled camp staff training sessions and camp events
Consult with the Garden Educator at camp host school and maintain excellent communication with their school garden staff
Learn and comply with all County Covid related regulations
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years old
Experience working in summer camps, environmental education, outdoor education is a must
Passion for garden-based education and for the mission of School Garden Network
Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate groups of diverse participants
Experience developing curriculum or programs is a must
Passionate about food and environmental education
Demonstrated ability to supervise a diverse team through constructive feedback and non-violent communication
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to and facilitate changing conditions
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Ability to carry bulky, heavy teaching equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
Ability to lead field trips over diverse terrain in all weather conditions
Current driver’s license and access to transportation is a must
Current First Aid and CPR certifications a must, or willing to obtain
General computer literacy including ability to use Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite
Spanish language and cultural competency is a plus
Great communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to interface with the public
Compensation & Scope of Work Seasonal Position Compensation: $30 per hour
Phase 1: Part-time and remote.
Program Development: Remote work up to 90 hours. Position is supported by SGN Program Director and other SGN staff.
Interview and hire teaching team (2 instructors & 1 assistant)
Manage camp registration (Eventbrite) and parent communication
Facilitate teacher training & set up site (3 days the week of June 27th)
Revise camp staff manual
Communicate with Salmon Creek school garden educator to plan and prioritize summer activities
Develop and promote/distribute outreach materials in collaboration with SGN staff
Plan and develop the curriculum and sequence of each week of camp
Phase 2: Full time and onsite.
CAMP: July 4- July 29. (160 hours)
Manage 2 instructors and 1 assistant, as well as lead your own group of campers, M-F 8:00am-4:00pm from July 4-July 29.
Act as the primary point of contact for parents during camp.
Phase 3: Part time. Remote.
Camp Wrap-up and program evaluations (Up to 10 hours total)

We are thrilled to offer Garden Camp for four weeks this July 2022 to provide a fun and safe way for children to be in nature and to learn through outdoor exploration, adventure and discovery.
