Get Involved
Here are some of the many ways to join the school gardening movement in Sonoma County:
SGN Community
This is SGN's community bulletin board, where information is exchanged about curricular resources, free seeds and plants, workshops, grants, and what's happening in and beyond the county. Have questions? Ask other school gardeners. Would you like to be updated and informed about what's happening in the school garden community? Join Forums - Simply register yourself on this site!
Join a School Garden Network committee
Most of SGN's work is accomplished by committees that focus on one aspect of what SGN does. We can always use help! Consider joining one of our committees to pursue your interests, use your skills and grow more school gardens. Click HERE to learn more about SGN Committees.
OAEC Teacher Training
In Sonoma County we are fortunate to have one of the top school garden teacher training programs in the country. One-week residential trainings are held by the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center two to three times during the summer. For more information, go to the OAEC website.
Volunteer at a school near you
School gardens are often run by volunteer teachers and parents. If a school near you already has a garden, it may need more helping hands. Ask at the school office, since all volunteers need to be checked out for the children's safety. You may also join our SGN Yahoo Group (see above) and post your desire to volunteer and your availability.

Resources

RESOURCES: Getting Started.
A school garden is not likely to last or be fully used without broad support from the school community. So the first job of someone wishing to start a garden is to gather support.
